swine flu update 29th April

As the toll of suspected deaths of swine flu rises over 160 in Mexico the UK government are to issue every household with an advisory leaflet to allay public fears. The Governments emergency committee, COBRA, are in session this morning to discuss the future handling of the virus. The NHS is to stokpile medical face masks to be issued to emergency services.

Health officials in Scotland have sent samples from a suspected 23 cases to London labs for testing; 9 of which are known to the original case of honeymooners from Falkirk.

Reuters have just confirmed the death of a 23 month child in Texas of swine flu - the first non Mexican victim of the killer bug. The number of confirmed cases has risen to 65 in the states.

The French foreign Minister has also requested that the EU ban all flights to Mexico.
